Wow. I’m stunned. I just received another Thinking Blogger Award, this time from Poor Statue over at Not Mother. She said,
Susan seems to fill every post with meaning. She writes about a variety of topics, but she always encourages her readers to think and to ask themselves questions. And I do.
That just made my week. So often I feel like I’m just writing all of these random things that don’t fit together in any coherent way. When I write about adoption, I worry about the writers going ho-hum, or if I write about writing, I worry that the sandwich generation people don’t care, if I write about books…well, you get it. So I was really honored and happy to read that it was working for Poor Statue. I don’t think I could really restrict myself to one topic. My dad always used to tell me, “Never work for one boss,” (he was a manufacturer’s rep and worked for commission only for about 20 companies) and I seem to have taken that to heart my whole life, even here on my blog.
So the BEST part about getting the award is that now I get to pass it on! Yay! So this time I would love to nominate:
- Melanie over at The Mel Mystique. Mel has been doing some super intensive kung-fu training over the past several months. I went to the first class with her and my brain fell apart. I couldn’t deal with it; couldn’t memorize anything, and my body felt so klutzy it wasn’t even funny. I was supposed to be doing a Glass Horse stance but instead I felt like a stuffed wombat. She’s also a writer (and a damn good one) and has written a whole lot about the connections between kung fu and writing and life. Her most recent post, about her yellow-belt test day, totally choked me up.
- Vicki over at Speak Softly And Carry the Proverbial Baton Grand. Vicki is one of my fellow columnists over at Literary Mama, and her knockout column, Special Needs Mama, has blazed to the top of our most-read list. And you will see why. She’s a terrific writer, poetic and compassionate and zennish and practical all at the same time.
- The Empress over at That’s Empress To You. Another great writer. She’s a single mom, an urbanite, a dancer, often very damn funny, zingy, but with a tender inside. I get all mushy when I read the stuff she writes about her kid, and the rest of it often makes me laugh.
- Dawn at This Woman’s Work. Dawn is an adoptive mom who never ceases to blow me away with her consciousness, her open heart, her open adoption, her commitment to going beyond “love is enough” and really walking the walk in every way. She recently wrote a post about her daughter’s birthday party, which was hosted by her daughter’s birth mother, and my heart just about exploded with incredulous joy. All I can say is, Dawn is really doing it.
- Bloglily. Bloglily is a wonderful writer and a gracious soul. The headline of her blog says “It must give pleasure” and I can say that her blog always does that for me.
So those are my picks this time! (I am now of course secretly wishing I will be nominated again so I can pick five more….) Please visit them and enjoy.
Now nominees! It is your turn to pick five of YOUR favorite thinking bloggers, write about them and link back to the original Thinking Blogger Website.

I have to tell you that I would have written a much better blurb about you, but when I started writing about your blog, my crazy neighbors came home and started yelling about how I’m stealing from them. It left me a bit distracted. Anyway, I like your mix of topics.
