Before older daughter set off for her Vision Quest trip, she had just one request for us. “Send me good vibes,” she said. Then she got more specific. “Every night that I am on my solo, at 6:00pm or when it’s sunset, I want you all to think of me and do a crazy dance!” Often while dinner is getting prepared she will break into “crazy dancing” in the kitchen and crack us all up. She said that her plan was to dance in the desert at sunset every night, and it would make her happy to know we were dancing with her, hundreds of miles north. She said she was planning to arrange rocks at her solo spot so that they would replicate us at the dinner table, and that she would talk to us, or the rocks that represented us. (she was also going to make a rock formation to represent her crew boat and teammates)
So tonight, around 6:00pm, her dad said, “Hey – it’s six o’clock”! We put on some jump-around music. We all danced crazy, which I think is an activity we have not done together, like, ever. Even my mother danced. It was a riot. We took a little 10-second movie with my camera. I guess we’ll do it again tomorrow night. It was fun.
Tonight is her first night alone. I hope it’s beautiful, with lots of stars, and not too cold. At least the rain has stopped. I’m feeling better than I have all week. I hope that’s a good sign.

I LOVE the idea of her dancing alone in the desert with her family of rocks, and of you all dancing in the kitchen, all linked by spider webs of love and time.
